Task 11& a. proposed
geophysical survey and is intended to evaluate the potential that historic underground fuel storage tanks remain in
place under the roadway. Task 2 is a proposed °shallow sarrtpling to identify, potential soil contamination, which.
may affect the :project. The following scope of services :and compensation are based.on PBS' .understanding of
current struptures, site conditions, and usage.
PROJECT APPROACH
Task 1
PBS proposes to contract Northwest Geophysical Associates to conduct a ground=truth, geophysical survey at a
portion of 13th Avenue where underground storage tanks were mapped in 1925. Although the accuracy of the
,:geophysical survey is limited by on-site conditions that are beyond anyones control, the survey is intended to
identify if subsurface anomalies indicative of underground tanks in this area. At the present time, Northwest
Geophysical Associates plans to. survey an area that covers approximately 1500 square feet where the historic
tanks were mapped. The geophysical:.survey instruments that may be utilized. include a field magnetometer
(MAG), a conductivity instrument (EM), and ground-penetrating radar (GPR), It is anticipated-that only one or two
of these instruments will be required to identify these historic underground storage tanks.
PBS will develop a traffic eontrot plan for the fieldwork to conduct fhe.geophysical: uniey including appropriate `
signs, cones, and flaggers if needed. PBS assumes that-the City will turn the signal off 0 work is indicated to take
place in the intersection. A preliminary review of available historic data indicates that the tanks are not likely to be
in the intersection, however, the exact location of the tanks is unknown.
PBS will coordinate with the geophysical survey contractor and coordinate necessary field activities. A brief letter-
style report will evaluate the findings of the geophysical survey.
Task 2
If a tank is discovered in the project excavation area during Task 1, PBS will retain a drilling subcontractor and
install up to 4 temporary borings using a direct push Geoprobe® drill rig. PBS will collect up to eight soil samples
Bend I Boise' Coquille ( Eugene Portland Seattle Tri-Cities' Vancouver
2645 Willamette Street, Suite A, Eugene OR 97405
541.686.8684 Main
541.686.4602 Fax
www.pbsenv.com
