,_ ~ Section 5
Airlines
Airlines used at Portland International Airport
Of the Eugene Airport catchment area survey travelers who used Portland International Airport, Alaska
-~ Airlines/Horizon Air captured the largest share of the top 25 destinations with 30.7 percent and 23.1
percent in the total survey. United Airlines ranked second among top 25 destinations travelers with a
'~ 26.1 percent share and an overall leading share of 21.8 percent. Delta Air Lines ranked third with 9.0
::..~ percent of the travelers destined for the top 25 destinations and 10.6 percent of travelers to all
destinations. Southwest Airlines did not make the top five in the survey. However, Southwest Airlines
_~ has a high percentage of bookings through their proprietary website and reservations offices and are
~. most likely underrepresented in this survey.
-~ Access to additional hubs and the greater number of nonstop markets as well as lower fares in some
instances appear to be major factors in diverting catchment area passengers to Portland International
Airport. In comparison to the 2004 Passenger Demand Analysis, market share of diverting passengers
changed minimally.
Table 5.2 Airlines used at Portland International Airport
`Rank Destinations United Horizon Air/ ' Delta American ' America 30ther Total
~~~
Alaska West ~
Pa;, P~,a % Pax % Pax % Pax % Pax %
7 Pax
1
Las Vey~s, NV
11r
8.0
1,019
F9.9
0
0.0
0
0.0
192
13.2 130
89 _
1,458
'. ~ 2 LosAngcle.s.
