Section 5. Airlines
From the perspective of airport management, it is important to understand which airports are used to
originate air travel and the destinations desired by local air travelers. This section provides specific
information on destinations, airlines, and originating airports for air travel from the Eugene Airport
catchment area. Information in this section is especially helpful in identifying air carrier strength in
specific markets. The air carriers listed in the following tables are the marketing carriers, not necessarily
the operating carrier. For example, SkyWest Airlines is a code-share partner with Delta Air Lines and
operates the nonstop Eugene to Salt Lake City service inaugurated May 1, 2004.
Airlines used at Eugene Airport
United Airlines carried 58.9 percent of survey air travelers who originated travel at Eugene Airport.
Horizon Air trailed with 28.1 percent of survey passengers and America West Airlines rounded out the top
three with 12.0 percent. United Airlines had the highest market share for 18 of the top 25 survey
destinations. Horizon Air had its strongest market share to its direct service markets and California
destinations. America West Airlines market share was highest for Arizona markets and Albuquerque, NM.
Compared to the last survey, share for United Airlines and Delta Air Lines grew by 3.3 points and 4.9
points, respectively. Horizon Air's and America West Airlines' share fell 4.8 points and 3.4 points, respectively.
