Section 4
Destinations
Distribution of international travel
Approximately 14.4 percent of the survey's travelers had international itineraries. Of the 10,215
international travelers in the sample survey, 31.9 percent were destined for Europe. Of air travelers with
an international itinerary, 31.4 percent were destined for the number two international region, Mexico and
Central America. Of the travelers destined for Europe or Mexico and Central America, 33.6 percent and
31.0 percent, respectively, accessed air service at Eugene Airport. Eugene Airport retained the majority
of survey travelers destined for Canada or Asia. Table 4.7 breaks down the international air travelers by
originating airport and region.
The majority of the survey travelers with international itineraries diverted from the local airport to use
Portland International Airport. This is likely due to the availability of single plane and limited nonstop
international service offered there. Eugene Airport's retention was higher to international regions where
Seattle/Tacoma International Airport or San Francisco International Airport had significantly better
international travel options over Portland International Airport (Asia, Canada, Australia, and Oceania). In
that type of scenario, a traveler originating at Eugene Airport would have the same quality of connections
as originating out of Portland International Airport.
Table 4.7 Regional distribution of international passengers
Region Originating a irport Total
Eugene Portland
Europe Pax 1,096 2 166 3,2E

of row
33.6 ~~,~wv
66.4 ...,.~,~..
100
°lo of column 28.4 34.1
~ 31
.
Mexico & Central Pax ~ 994 ~ w
2,215 „~~
3,2(
:America °~, of row 31.0 69.0 100
.,
„w,~,..~
%. of column 25.7, 34.95 ~.m
31
C:anacia Pax 770 555
~ 1,3~
°~~ of row ~ 58.1 41.9
~
~ 100
"~: of column 19.9 $.7 13
Asia Pax 586 444 1,0<
",~~ of row 56.9 43.9
...
.... 100
-

~, of column
15.2' .
7.0, -
~ 10
~

C~fribbean
Pax ~
44,
3461 .
3t
`)~~ of row 11.3 88.7 100
~~
;~ of column 1.1 5.4 ~
3

South America
Pax
115
273
. ~~~
3£
.:.
.~:
°~~ of row 29.6 70.4 ~
1.00
°% of column 3.0 4.3 . 3
Australia & Pax 170 172 ( 3~
Oceania ,o of row 49.7 50.3 10_0
`;4, of column 4.4 2.7
3
Africa.
