RIVER ROAD RESIDENTS' VIEWS OF ANNEXATION
Results are again compared with the "straight vote" to measure incremental
support of the property tax themes.
Vote With Tax Determents (Read Down)
Straight No Increase For 7 For 10
Vote for 5 Years Years Years
For annexation 25% 44% 49% 54%
Against 65 49 44 38
Undecided 9 7 7 8
(Results may not total to 100% due to rounding)
It will be recalled that fear of higher property taxes was the number one
reason for opposing annexation. When this fear is neutralized by the promise
of static property taxes, support increases steadily, reaching the majority mark
for a moratorium period of 10 years.
The third theme posed the "promise" of a $750 reduction in sewer fees, then
asked for voting intentions under this premise. As observed below, this
produced a 16% increment in potential support for annexation.
Vote With Reduction In Sewer Fee (Read Down)
Straight If Sewer Fee
Vote Reduced $750
For annexation 25% 41%
Against 65 49
Undecided 9 10
(Results may not total to 100% due to rounding)
PAGE 10
__ _
