NATURAL RESOURCE MAINTENANCE • Maintains 540 acres of rough mowing • Maintains 33 miles of major open drainage channels • Cleans roadside and minor ditch • 9 FTE are assigned to this work unit WETLANDS • Maintains wetlands • 4 FTE are assigned to this work unit PARKS MAINTENANCE: Parks Maintenance maintains all City park vegetation, irrigation systems, turf and athletic facilities including the tree maintenance program. LANDSCAPE AND MEDIANS • Maintains 40 acres of City medians, landscaped shrub beds, and the Chambers Connector • Manages street tree planting program • Responds to all emergency tree related hazards within rights-of-way • Trims trees for sign, signal, and street light clearance • Maintains 81 acres at Hendricks Park including 18 acres of Rhododendron Gardens • Maintains 500 acres in the Riverside Parks • 12 FTE are assigned to this work unit PARKS AMENITIES • Maintains 81 acres at Hendricks Park including 18 acres of Rhododendron Gardens • Maintains 500 acres in the Riverside Parks • Maintains park rest rooms, tennis courts, play equipment and garbage cans • Manages the volunteer in parks program • Manages the volunteer tree planting program • 8 FTE are assigned to this work unit TREE MAINTENANCE AND PLANNING • Coordinates tree planting program • Administers tree removal permit program • Inspects and maintains approximately 100,000 trees on public property and street rights-of- way • Provides emergency and routine maintenance of larger parks trees for public safety • Answers citizen inquiries about publicly-owned trees • Performs code enforcement for tree removal violations • 10 FTE are assigned to this work unit TURF AND GROUNDS • Maintains 227.5 acres of finish mowing • Maintains 8 acres in the Owen Rose Garden • Maintains 132 miles of irrigation pipe with 16,049 irrigation heads • Maintains 32 athletic fields • Maintains 9.3 mile of bark jogging or walking • 19 FTE are assigned to this work unit Facilities Master Plan -January 2004 III-5
