The Idea Behind the Concept <br />The generating idea behind the urban design <br />concept was to strengthen the connection along <br />8th Avenue to the river, and to re-connect the <br />Millrace back to the river. The concept diagram <br />shows the 8th Avenue connection, reinforcing 8th <br />as a Civic street. The diagram also depicts the <br />historic alignment of the Millrace, which is the same <br />as the current location of the underground pipe. <br />The new alignment begins at Mill and Broadway, <br />then follows Ferry Street to a railroad underpass <br />and onto the EWEB waterfront property. <br />..: ~ ,,.. <br />Urban design concept. <br />Page 6 <br />
