Facility Design Requirements <br />U. S. Court of Appeals <br />The court of appeals would house a library in the new federal courthouse, with hours of <br />operation from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. <br />U. S. Attorney <br />The U. S. Attorney's office, including civil and criminal branches, is responsible for <br />coordinating grand jury proceedings, prosecuting all federal crimes, and handling civil litigation. <br />This office operates from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. <br />Space requirements for the U. S. Attorney's office include private offices, open work stations, <br />shared support spaces and equipment, a reception area, a data processing room, deposition and <br />witness interview rooms, trial preparation rooms, a debt collection room, and a secure evidence <br />storage vault. <br />Pretrial Services <br />The pretrial services office is responsible for interviewing new detainees and submitting pretrial <br />reports to the courts regarding detention and release. In addition, this office is responsible for <br />performing urinalysis drug testing and supervision of defendants released from custody and on <br />diversion programs. This office generally operates~from 8 a.m. to S p.m., Monday through <br />Friday. For security reasons, the staff should have private access apart from the public reception <br />area. <br />Pretrial service facilities require private offices (to meet defendant contact and confidentiality <br />requirements), open work stations, office support spaces, a reception and waiting area, a toilet for <br />urinalysis testing, a urinalysis testing laboratory and workroom with secure sample storage, a <br />secure electronic monitoring program room, two secure computer terminal and printer rooms (for <br />criminal records access and local area network systems and server), and a secure record storage <br />room for files. Pretrial services also requires the use of a conference and training room. <br />Probation Office <br />The probation office conducts confidential investigations and prepares reports for the U. S. <br />District Courts, U. S. Parole Commission, U. S. Bureau of Prisons, and U. S. Attorney. The <br />probation office provides correctional treatment and supervision for offenders who are on <br />probation, supervised release, parole, and mandatory release.
