Roosevelt Middle School Planning
In early 2004, the 4J School District began a public process of their own to look at
alternatives for rebuilding Roosevelt Middle School. This process was initiated based on
the need to replace or substantially rebuild the school in the next ten years, and the
desire to coordinate development plans between the school and park. Two public
meetings were held by 4J staff and the options for replacing the school were discussed.
Although there was no final decision made on the replacement location, the options
were narrowed to those which are on school district property, and will not directly
impact park land. See the appendix for potential building location diagrams. Following the
conclusion of the school district public process, the 3rd workshop for Amazon Park was
scheduled.
Workshop #3
On May 25, 2004 the 3rd and final Amazon Park Planning Workshop was held at
Amazon Community Center. The event was an open house and tour of the park.
Approximately 50 individuals participated in the event. Two graphics were on display
in the community center; one showing the complete
concept design for the park, and the other showing the
priority improvements to be funded with the existing
bond measure dollars.
Four stations were set up in the park to provide
further information on the improvements which were
identified for funding. The stations were staffed by
Parks and Open Space Division and Recreation
Division staff, and a printed tour guide was provided..
to participants. The four stations included; the dog
park, the new bridge crossing location, the renovated
ballfield and new path locations, and the new restroom
location..
Workshop #3 open house.
Participants were also invited to fill out a questionnaire and place a flag in a location
where they desired a bench to be placed. At the end of the event, the locations were.
recorded. See the Workshop #3 Report in the appendix for a complete summary of the meeting,
tour guide, and results from a questionnaire distributed at the workshop.
Amazon Park Concept Design Page 10 February 15, 2005
