Workshop #2
` The first workshop generated large amounts of interest in the planning process. A
number of e-mails, phone calls and written testimony were submitted and some media
. attention resulted. Much of this interest was centered on the bond measure
recommendation to build ballfields. Whereas, some members of the community
supported the bond measure recommendation for improved ballfields, others felt that
the park has its share of developed areas and preferred that available funds be directed
towards natural areas and general park amenities.
Interested parties on all sides of the various issues turned out in large numbers at the 2nd
workshop, held on November 20, 2003. Approximately 120 community members were
present for this meeting at Hilyard Community Center. The anticipated outcomes of the
workshop were described to the audience as follows:
^ Provide information about the public process and project.
^ Collect input on the concept diagrams to be presented.
^ Provide an opportunity for community feedback on process and project.
Concept diagrams were presented to provide a graphic representation of the proposed
improvements. These diagrams were in large part based on input from previous public
involvement, interactions. Four separate. diagrams. identified improvements grouped
into four categories:
^ General Park Improvements
^ Access/ Circulation/ Parking
^ Active Recreation
^ Natural Resources
Several handouts were also provided to attendees including a spreadsheet with
information on the above mentioned projects such as estimated costs, timing and
potential funding sources.
Following a question and answer period, time for public comment was allotted to
several individuals who had asked for time on.the agenda. The public comment was
then opened to the entire audience and numerous community members provided input
for over one hour. Comments were recorded on a wallgraphic at the front of the room..
See the Workshop #2 Report in the appendix for a complete summary of the meeting and results
from a questionnaire distributed at the workshop.
Amazon Park Concept Design Page 9 February 15, 2005
