Encourages us to
provide better, more accessible, frequent, reliable, and usable public transportation -focus
required to fund and provide a "good" public transportation alternative.
General Comments:
• Tim Calvert: Support for Transportation Enhancement Project Application - Springwater
Trail: SE Umatilla - SE 19th. Please fund the rest of the Springwater trail. I live along the
proposed trail, I commute daily. I work at City Bikes and send out of town visitors (who rent
our bikes) down the Springwater. This is a recreational, economic, commuter step up.
Please fund this project!
• Tim Calvert: Support for Transportation Enhancement Project Application - Springwater
Trail: SE Umatilla - SE 19th. I live alongside the proposed path. I use the Springwater now
to commute to work in the inner eastside on a daily basis. I am strongly in favor of this ex-
tension. I see thousands of Portlanders enjoying this extension, using it to commute and rec-
reate.
• William Barth, M.D.: Support for Transportation Enhancement Project Application -
Springwater Trail: SE Umatilla - SE 19th. The United States is caught in epidemic diabetes
and obesity! (especially children) This threatens the crumbling health cafe of the average
person! It threatens national security! We must have more safe and fun places for physical
activity!
• Ella Vining: Support for Transportation Enhancement Project Application - Springwater
Trail: SE Umatilla - SE 19th. I was injured in ahit-and-run collision with a car, while riding
my bike in a bike lane on the Hawthorne Bridge, in 2002. My injuries healed after 9 months,
but mentally I was unable to ride my bike until last year. At first, the only places I could ride
were on the Springwater Corridor and the Eastbank Esplanade, because there were no cars
pulling alongside me. I still feel much more comfortable on these trails rather than on streets.
Riding and walking on them makes me happy to pay taxes.
• Berman: Support for Transportation Enhancement Project Application - Springwater Trail:
SE Umatilla - SE 19th. I ride my bike with my 1 year old in a bike trailer. It's much safer
on the trail than on city streets. It's a convenient way to walk downtown.
• Margaret Branson: Support for Transportation Enhancement Project Application - Springwa-
ter Trail: SE Umatilla - SE 19th. The completion of the Bellwood Gap would be so good for
our neighborhoods! I am asking for your support.
• Daryl Fischer: Support for Transportation Enhancement Project Application - Springwater
Trail: SE Umatilla - SE 19th. This morning after tennis at Eastmoreland Racket Club, I took
a hike from 42nd west on the Springwater Trail to check out the sewer work and the 3 new
bridges. I went as far as Goodwill where the new trail ends. It would be very nice to have a
trail connect with the trail at Oakes Park. I ride the Springwater Trail out to Boring 2 or 3
Page 364
