City of Eugene <br />Dumber of Motor Vehicle Accidents -Five Year History <br />so <br />so <br />ao <br />zo <br />The FY07 City-wide driving accident records showed <br />a decrease in the total number of accidents for the <br />fifth consecutive year as shown in the graph on the <br />right. This continues a reversal of the upward trend <br />experienced from FY00 to FY03. <br />The pie chart below shows the number of vehicle <br />accidents in FY07 by department. <br />FY03 FY04 FY05 FY06 FY07 <br />.The percentage of accidents classified as <br />"at-fault" accidents in FY07 was 81 %, up <br />from the 78% reported in FY06. The high percentage of at-fault accidents <br />continues to be an area of concern. In FY07, <br />ao°~ ~ - at-fault accidents in Fire, Public Works, Police, <br />and Central Services accounted for 37 of the 43 <br />reported at-fault incidents. Risk Services will <br />20°~ ~ - continue to work with these departments to try to <br />reverse this trend and reduce the number of <br />o°r° - ~ at-fault accidents currently being incurred. <br />FY03 FY04 FY05 FY06 FY07 <br />In order to reduce vehicle accidents and potential <br />claims against the City, and in a proactive <br />approach to employee safety, Risk Services reviews all driving records prior to <br />the hiring of new employees. If a prospective employee meets the City's <br />driving standards and is hired, they are entered into an auto flag system with <br />the State of Oregon.
