? Legal liability drives the need to require that some classes be provided to
employees -Workplace Harassment is an example. The board requested that the
content of the Workplace Harassment and Workplace Violence classes be
reviewed to make sure we want to maintain both classes separately and there is
not too much overlap.
? The HR Board agreed that a basic communication class should be provided.
Power of Words seems to be meeting this need, although it would be nice to add a
customer service message here too. Denise will be building the next level based
on content from the book "Crucial Conversations: When the Stakes are High"
? Adding a basic Civics class to the curriculum would be a good idea. (Public
Service 101, what it means to be a public employee, values of the organization
and public service, etc.)
? .Continuing education around ethics/values, following up the upcoming intense
organizational training, will need to be addressed. This may be part of the public
service 101 class or a stand alone.
? Customer Service classes will stay as optional, although a general customer
service message should be part of the public service class. Some departments
have already requested in-house training around customer service.
? The Meeting Skills class has not been filling, but possibly due to 2 day format.
Denise will explore changing the format to a single day 6 hour class instead.
? Next meeting board will discuss:
Remainder of training document
What classes are missing?
What classes should be required?
? Discussion of the supervisor curriculum also
Next meeting -Thursday, April 8
Meeting Agenda will include:
• - Continue Policy exception discussion

i
• Continue discussion of Coordinated Training Program Curriculum -Denise Smith
_ I-1R Board Meeting Notes
_ March 11, 2004 2
