29.5 Employees may be granted compassionate leave with pay of up to four (4) <br /> hours to attend the funeral of a coworker. Employees may also be granted <br /> leave with pay of up to four (4) hours for other funerals if the employee is <br /> serving as a pallbearer. <br /> 29.6 Vacation, compensatory time, or holiday time may be used to supplement <br /> compassionate leave. In some circumstances, the use of sick leave in <br /> conjunction with compassionate leave maybe appropriate. <br /> Article 30 <br /> MILITARY LEAVE <br /> <br /> i <br /> A regular or probationary employee with six (6) months service with the City who is <br /> a member of the National Guard or a reserve component of the Armed Forces of the <br /> United States is entitled to leave of absence for a period not to exceed fifteen.(15) <br /> calendar days in any training year. Employees are expected to inform the City of the <br /> dates of the training year after their unit fixes those dates and provides them to the <br /> employee. The leave shall be granted without loss of pay or other leave, and without <br /> impairment of other rights or benefits to which s/he is entitled, providing the <br /> employee received bona fide orders. to active or training duty, provides them to the <br /> City, and returns to her/his position immediately upon expiration of the period for <br /> which s/he was ordered to duty. Leave without pay shall be allowed in accordance <br /> with state and federal laws for reserve military training of any length of time, <br /> including weekends, and for those employees entering military service for extended <br /> or indefinite periods of active duty. <br /> Article 31 <br /> WITNESS OR JURY DUTY <br /> When an employee is called for jury duty or is subpoenaed as a witness under <br /> circumstances beyond her/his control and where the duties can be construed to be in <br /> the public interest, s/he will be continued at full salary for the period of required <br /> service. All monies received as witness fees or pay for jury duty must be signed over <br /> to the City, unless the fees are earned on employees' days off or during other <br /> authorized leave with pay. Employees will be expected to report to work when less <br /> than a normal work day is required by jury or witness duties. <br /> 'Article 32 <br /> LEAVE WITHOUT PAY <br /> 32.1 An employee may be granted leave of absence without pay for up to one (1) <br /> year when the work ofher/his department will not be seriously handicapped by <br /> AFSCME contract - 46 - <br /> <br />
