Project Review
Employee Compensation Training Outline
Interview/Observation: 04/06/2003 -Karin Smith, Compensation & Classification Manager, HRRS
reviewed and provided input
Agency Compliance: The City's Compensation and Classification staff in the Human Resources & Risk
Services Department maintains position description files and oversees the review
of position descriptions.
Ideally, supervisors and employees are reviewing the position description at the
time of the annual evaluation, to ensure the duties have not changed significantly.
If a position's duties change significantly, PW supervisors and employees can

~ request to have a position reviewed by HRRS. In either instance, approval for the
review must include that of the division manager and the executive manager prior
to HRRS beginning a review.
All job postings provide a comprehensive overview of the position, salary range,
knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the job, education and
training/experience guidelines, selection process, and an overview of the city's
benefits package. If the position is assigned to work anything other than a standard
M-F, 8-5 job, that information is noted on the job posting; however, positions can be
assigned to any work shift or schedule, given proper notification (for AFSCME
represented positions).
An effort is made to periodically review position descriptions. Currently that review
happens during the evaluation process; when there is a vacancy, prior to posting .
the job; during reorganizations; when there is a change in service, job
requirements, and/or certification/license requirements.
Actions to Comply:
Evaluator Suggestions:
Evaluator Requirements:
Evaluator Note:
Project Manager's Signature: ,((G Date: L'e 2
Agency Director's Signature: Dafe:
APWA Seif Assessment - 4th Edition # 2.2 Page 2 of 2
_ _
