Human Resource
& Risk Services
City of Eugene
777 Pearl Street, Room 101
MEMORAND V 111 Eugene, Oregon 97401
(541)682-5061
(541) 682-6831 FAX-
Nrmrmr.ci.eugene.or.us
Date: September 12, 2001
To: Eugene Employees
From: Marilyn D. Mays, Diversity Manager
Subject: Respectful Work Environment Policy Placard
i
Policy Placard
Several months ago a group of Human Resource staff and the City's Diversity Advisory Council
developed a Respectful Work Environment (RWE) Policy placard. This placard is in addition to the
City's Professional Conduct and Prohibition Against Harassment and Discrimination Policy. After
recai~ing-feedback from employees across the organization that the Anti-Harassment and Discrimination
~ olic could be sim lifted and should be dis la ed in all work laces a universal lacard was develo ed.
p Y p p Y p p p
In June, the City Manager and the Executive Management Team approved the policy. Each department
has ordered the placards and they have been distributed by your department diversity committee Chair to
each work section and division. Look for the light blue Respectful Work Environment Policy placard to
be posted in your workplace.
Supervisors Responsibility
The placard is another tool that supervisors and employees can use as a resource for guidance around the
City's expectations about work place behavior. As part of the communication of the-RW-E policy-to
employees, supervisors have been asked to meet with their work teams to review and distribute the
policy to them.
The City of Eugene is committed to having a positive and professional work environment for all
employees. We all.have a role in promoting-and ensuring that these standards are upheld in our work
environment.
If you have any questions about the RWE policy contact Marilyn Mays, Melissa Pearson or Helen Towle
in HRRS.

i
_ _ _
