PARK SPECIALIST 3 <br /> I Posting Period: May 3-20, 2004 <br /> Page 2 <br /> Examples of Duties Performed (cont.) <br /> Operates computer terminals and uses programs to track daily vvork schedules; creates and modifies maps; <br /> writes equipment specifications; orders supplies and materials, prioritizes work orders, and tracks expenses; <br /> assists in the development of project budgets and works with vendors to purchase materials. <br /> Provides lead direction to other Park Specialists at a worksite and assists lead worker in overseeing <br /> maintenance work at multiple sites. <br /> Works with and supports the efforts of volunteer groups, other City staff, and/or the staff of other agencies. <br /> i <br /> Supports and respects diversity in the workplace. <br /> Performs other related duties as assigned. <br /> Qualifications <br /> <br /> I <br /> Knowledge of: <br /> Park maintenance principles, practices, and equipment involved in the area of natural resource <br /> <br /> ' management. <br /> Safety precautions and the ability to identify hazards. <br /> <br /> i <br /> Native vegetation and soils. <br /> <br /> i <br /> <br /> ~I Basic principles of ecology. <br /> Path and trail maintenance techniques. <br /> Integrated pest management (IPM) concepts including manual, mechanical, chemical, cultural, and <br /> biological vegetation control methods, including knowledge of herbicides and herbicide application <br /> methods, including spraying with backpack and power-driven sprayers, wiper and wick applicators, <br /> injection, low-volume basal treatments, cut and treat the stump, and similar methods. <br /> <br /> I <br /> Ability to: <br /> Identify native plants and understand their cultural requirements. <br /> Identify and suppress exotic, invasive plant materials. <br /> Operate heavy construction equipment, including loaders, backhoes, and tractor crawlers. <br /> Operate small and large trucks, large mowers, power tools, and hand tools. <br /> Instruct others and perform in natural resource maintenance practices and methods. <br /> Use herbicides in a safe and effective manner. <br /> Plan and implement non-chemical vegetation management methods. <br /> Work well with other employees and the public. <br /> Plan and organize the work of others. <br /> Provide and wear personal protective equipment as required. <br /> Be available for and respond to emergency call-back. <br /> Perform strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions. <br /> Imore? <br /> <br />
