growth consistent with each species, planting well is free of weeds and other
plants. Plant exhibits good health.
0 80% survival rate or better after end summer measure based on the number of
plants per species identified at final acceptance of initial planting}. Plants show
growth consistent with each species, planting well is free of weeds and other
plants. Plant exhibits good health.
Plants exhibiting poor health or disease will be identified as not surviving and will be
required to be replaced.
As determined by the City, survival rates may be measured using an area sampling
method. To determine the rate of survival, the City and Contractor shall select
representative sample areas of each species planfied and at varied locations throughout
the project site. These will be determined after the original planting. The sample area will
be delineated with %"metal rods supplied by the Gontractor so as to re-establish corners
later. The sampling areas may be the same for different species and all sampling areas
taken togethershall represent no less than 20°/° of each species planted; Each sample
area will be counted after initial planting and then again in September 2009 and 2014.
This must occur prior to the dropping of leaves on. any plants. Each plant species will be
counted separately at each sample area and documented. Sample area totals of
individual plant species counted as healthy, surviving plants shall be documented. The
sum of these totals shall be compared to the original planting total within the sample area
and a survival rate established per species based on this. The survival rate for plant
success will be 80°/°.
Example:
Total cottonwood trees planted on project. = 300
SO°/° survival rate required by contract = 240
Original count of all sample areas after initial planting of cottonwood trees = 80
trees.
Fall count of surviving cottonwood trees after initial planting = 60 trees.
First year survival rate = l5%.
First year warrantee replacement X300 x ~$0°/°-75°/°~~ = ~ 5 cottonwood trees
Replacement planting will first replace plants in the sample areas on a one for one
basis, the balance located at the direction of the Gity.
The same process is repeated the following year.
The Contractor shall plant new and healthy plants of the original plant species each
year of the establishment period and shall plant the number of plants necessary to
achieve 80°/° survival rate. Replacement plants shall meet the plant quality
standards specified in Section 2.6 above and. shall be planted as specified in section
2.10 above. Once planted, replacement plants shall be considered original plantings
forthe purpose of warranty. Should a species not be available orfor other reasons,
the City may request or approve a request to use another plant species. The
Contractor is required to submit this request 14 days prior to planting. Substitution of
species will not change bid item value.
The use of representative sample areas is intended to efficiently measure planting
success. If work within the sample areas does not accurately reflect the condition of
the entire planting site, the City reserves the right to reject all establishment work.
