~d}Watering During Planting. All cuttings, bare root, and container plants shall be
watered thoroughly immediately upon planting to settle the soil. Sufficient water shall be
applied to thoroughly wet the soil around the roots and remove any air pockets. Watering
may be accomplished either from the top of bank with a watering truck or by pumping
directly from the ponds, as allowed in a "limited license" water right that the City of Eugene
will be seeking with the Oregon Vvater Resource Department.
~e~Tree protection. All trees shall be protected according to the following specifications:
~1 ~Cattonwood trees. Each cottonwood tree shall be protected with 4' tall welded wire
fencing ~2"x4" openings}, such ghat the fence forms a 3' diameter enclosure. The fencing
should be staked down with two 5-6' t-posts that are pounded in 12" minimum and
secured so that there is no gap between the ground and the bottom of the fence. It is
essential, to make sure the fence is flush with the ground and that it is securely attached
since larger beaverlnutria may try to force their way underneath. For those trees on the
slopes please trim the bottom of the fence as needed to allow it to sit flush to the ground
all the way around the trees. See Figure 3 for photos of trees protected using these
specifications.
~2~ All tree species, except for cottonwood. All trees, except cottonwood trees, shall be
protected with 24-30"tall rigid seedling protectian tubes that are staked in place with 30-
36" bamboo stakes. The tube material should sit flush with the ground and should be
secured to the stake so that it is not easily pushed up, exposing the tree trunk. These
tubes will protect young trees during the first two years, allowing them to establish a
healthy root system before they experience browse by herbivores.
Revise} 0~ 040.10 Plant Establishment and Maintenance
General -The plant establishment period will begin immediately once the original planting
is complete and sha[I continue until October 3~ St, 2010, Establishment period work
includes all work necessary to establish and maintain SO°/o survival of the original planting,
including watering and weed control as specified below. Plant replacement due to vehicle
damage, vandalism, theft, browsing or grazing will be the responsibility of the City.
(Delete) 01040.71 Care of Work
Revise} 0~ 040.12 Periodic Inspections -The City will perform monitoring for survival success
criteria} in September 2009 and September 2010. The Contractor shall perform re-
establishmentworkduring the dormant periods of winter following each monitoring period.
The Contractor shall insure an SO°/o success rate per species measure based on the
number of plants perspecies identified at final acceptance of initial planting} at both
inspection periods. Work may be accomplished at a different time to meet bettergrowing
conditions as determined by the City.
Revise} D1040.?3 -Success Criteria The determination of a successful planting establishment
will be made during periodic inspections. A successful planting establishment is defined
as follows:
~ 00°/~ survival rate and vigorous growth of all plants at the time of planting. No
breakage, or physical damage, set in ground plumb and to standards. Well
maintained.
