Make any <br />request for substitution in writing to the City within 30 days of scheduled planting. <br />(Revise) <br />0~ 044.40 General <br />Ali plant material shall be planted at Delta Ponds in the areas shown an Map 1 or as <br />directed by the City. The City and Contractor shall discuss the boundaries of the planting <br />area during the pre-project field visit. If necessary, the City will flag the boundaries of the <br />general planting area. The Contractor shall be responsible for layout and staking for plant <br />placement at each site, subject to approval by the City before planting. Adjust plant <br />locations to avoid possible conflicts with vehicle recovery clear zones, utilities, structures, <br />miscellaneous appurtenances, and signing, as directed. <br />Plants shall be planted in one offaur habitat zones, using the widths shown as general <br />guidelines forzone boundaries: <br />a Emergent: lower 1.5 feet of slope orfrom the waterline up to 1.5 feet upslope; <br />Q wetland transition: 6 foot wide zone immediately upslope from emergent; <br />a Riparian:15 foot wide zone in the middle of the slope; <br />o Upland: top 7.5 feet of the slope. <br />The planting area will vary in width and slope, so that not all planting areas will be exactly <br />uniform. The Contractor may make slight adjustments to the habitat zones to better <br />match site conditions. Significant habitat zone changes require prior approval from the <br />City. <br />Delete} 01040.48 -Planting Area Preparation <br />(Delete) 01040.49 -General Planting <br />Revise} 01040.50 -Special Planting Requirements <br />~a} Cuttings. lNillaw and dogwood cuttings shall be planted 1' to 3' apart in groupings of <br />at least three of the same species. <br />Cuttings shall be planted according to the following instructions: <br />Use an iron-stake, bar or water drill to make a pilot hole in firm soil. Plant the stakes butt- <br />ends into the ground, with the leaf bud scars or emerging buds always pointing up. Be <br />careful not to damage the buds, strip the bark or split the stake during installation. <br />Rooting hormone may be used to enhance growth of stakes. Submit product information <br />10 days prior to use. <br />Set the stake as deep as possible into the soil, with 80 percent of its length into the soil <br />and in contact with mid-summer moist soils. The stake should protrude only to a maximum <br />ofone-quarter its length above the ground level to prevent it from drying out. At least ~ <br />buds andlor bud scars shall be above the ground after planting. It is essential to have <br />good contact between the stake and soil for roots to sprout. Tamp the sail around the <br />cutting. <br />See Figure 1 forthe cutting planting detail. <br />
