Eugene has been identified as the
southern terminus of the Pacific Northwest High-Speed Rail Corridor, and the multi-modal project will
enhance the effectiveness of the rail program, while preserving historic features and providing safe,
convenient facilities for the various depot users.
The City's Council-approved goals are to facilitate ownership for public benefit, rehabilitate the existing
historic depot, provide vehicular loop access to the depot, accommodate current and future passenger
needs, and create a civic destination. Following are three components of work currently budgeted.
? Acquire land with the Depot and option to move the nearby Bunk house onto the property; 2 of the 3
historic structures of the train station. Future acquisition including the express building and for a
vehicular loop depends on funding, coordination with the property owner, and related developmerrts.
? Rehabilitate the historic 1908 Rail Depot and 1955 mail shed addition, with safe public use of
temporary facilities during construction. WBGS Architectuze & Planning, PC of Eugene is the prime
design consultant. The Amtrak area will include more space than they have now, incorporating the
leased space in the mail-shed. Following the station rehab, the Bunkhouse will be rehabilitated; and
.site amenities provided.
? Provide a master plan for the site as a regional transportation center. The master-plan will be a guide
for future site development on site as well as for improvements next to the site on Union Pacific land
for a passenger platform, rail, and train staging improvements.
City of Eugene September 30, 2003
