CITY COUNCIL PRIORITY ISSUE STATUS REPORT Neighborhood Association Initiative Contact: Kurt Corey, Executive Director, [Public Works] Roland Hoskins, Staff Lead, [8421 ] Reporting period: September -October The focus of the Neighborhood Association Initiative plan is on creating and sustaining Strong Neighborhoods, with an emphasis on building partnerships motivated to collaboratively problem-solve and develop solutions that benefit a broad representation of the community. The plan is focused on the following three objectives: • Enhance effective public engagement activities. • Support neighborhood involvement by empowering all neighborhood associations in problem solving. • Focus service delivery to better meet neighborhood-identified priorities. The City has a long history of working with the neighborhood associations. Neighborhood Matching Grants- • The Department Advisory Committee met and suggested minor adjustments in the program's administrative framework. The Request For Proposals went out as planned on September 15t". Staff is giving presentations to Neighborhood Associations on the grant program and application process. The grant packets are available on the City's web site and at the PIC, libraries and community centers. The pre-review deadline is January 15, 2007. Final applications are due Friday, March 9, 2007. • An example of some of the outreach materials generated. for the grant program is included in the last section of this document.
