City Tr ffic Engineer Gary Ludeke said the signal has been on the City's priority list
since 1997 an was scheduled to be installed in conjunction with planned street improvements on
Garden Way b tween Harlow Road and Centennial Boulevard. However, rapid development in
f
the vicinity of arden Way and a recent spate of traffic accidents convinced transportation staff
that a tempora y signal is warranted until a permanent signal can be installed.
Traffic volumes have been increasing on Garden Way with the steady growth of
i residential de lopment on Garden Way and in other areas of northeast Eugene. However, plans
to widen and i prove Garden Way, including sidewalk and signal work, have been put on hold
while the City reviews its street assessment policies. Depending on the outcome of that review,
actual constru tion of street improvements on Garden Way aren't expected until the summer of
2000 at the ea liest.

Public Works • Admi istration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl .Eugene, OR 97401-2727 .
