The cooler,
f
wetter weather atterns have delayed the growth of grasses and other vegetation, which means
property owner may have to mow later or more often to keep grass and weeds under control.
I
In the C ty of Eugene, property owners are responsible for keeping grass and weeds below
i
10 inches in hei ht and for removing blackberry vines or other obnoxious vegetation that extends
into a public w y, impairs motorists' visibility, or crosses a property line. City vegetation
program manag r Eric Cariaga says despite the late start to this year's growing season, grasses
+are thriving as t e weather warms up. Property owners who mowed early this spring may find
that additional uttings are needed to comply with City requirements.
Beginni g June 15, the City of Eugene will take action to make sure that overgrown grass
i
i
(and weeds and ther forms of obnoxious vegetation are controlled on vacant lots. Overgrown
;vegetation can reate fire and traffic hazards and is a violation of nuisance ordinances in the City
i
code.
On and veloped properties, the City may remove obnoxious vegetation between June 15
and September 30 without further notice. Vegetation that blocks the visibility of motorists must
be removed im ediately, regardless of the season.
Public Works • Admi istration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl .Eugene, OR 97401-2727 • Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX (541) 682-6826
