For 1998,
there were 35 intersections within the city that had 10 or more reported accidents. Topping the
list is the inte section of 7`h Avenue with the I - 105 off-ramp and Jefferson Street with 66
reported acci ents. This compares to 32 accidents at this location for 1997. The dramatic
increase in re orted accidents is attributed to the considerably higher traffic volumes that are now
traveling thro gh this intersection due to the construction in the Ferry Street Bridge corridor.
Total reporte accidents in the city were up slightly as compared to 1997, but down slightly as
compared to 996. There were eight fatal accidents in 1998 as compared to seven in the previous
year. There ere 51 pedestrian accidents in 1998 as compared to 49 in 1997 and 65 in 1996.

i

I

i
