The street tree, on Agate near 17th Avenue, is in the <br /> s e proximity two diseased elms that were removed by Eugene Public Works last summer. <br /> Public W rks staff took samples from two nearby elm trees and will send them to the Oregon <br /> epartment of A riculture for testing. Sixteen trees were sampled last year, but only two tested <br /> piositive for the gus. Urban Forestry staff will continue to monitor all the elms on Agate between <br /> 1~ th and 18th st et and welcomes assistance from the public in identifying infected trees. The <br /> sense causes su den yellowing and wilting of leaves and drooping limbs. <br /> Dutch el disease only affects elm trees, particularly American elms. The disease is highly <br /> c ntagious, and e Oregon Department of Agriculture strongly recommends immediate removal of <br /> i fected trees to duce the potential for spreading the disease to other trees. <br /> The Euge e Public Works Department will remove and replace any street elms found to be <br /> i ected with Dut helm disease. Residents with American elms suspected of being diseased should <br /> 11 Public Wor s Maintenance at 682-4800 to arrange for a free inspection.
