The City of Eugene has awarded the Lane Arts Council $25,000 to develop a Youth <br /> its Program to redirect youth away from graffiti vandalism through education and a positive art <br /> xperience. <br /> Accordin to the Lane Arts Council's proposal, the "program will provide youth with a positive <br /> rtistic outlet for creativity, recognition and expression; alternatives to and improved options for graffiti, <br /> agging and van alism; experience in graffiti clean-up; an educational program that builds artistic, <br /> rchitectural an job skills; and a paid work experience." <br /> Earlier t is year, the Eugene City Council created the one-time grant program as a strategy to <br /> iscourage tagg ng and graffiti on public and private property. The new program will work in <br /> ooperation wit the City's graffiti abatement and youth recreation services programs. <br /> The proj ct is expected to begin after the contract between the City and Lane Arts Council is <br /> igned. <br /> <br />
