~ _ ~ ~ ~ <br /> <br /> December 28, 1999 <br /> CONTACT: ary Ludeke, Traffic Engineer, 682-5237 <br /> From Public I formation Section, 682-5523 <br /> FOR IMME IATE RELEASE <br /> SAFE Y IMPROVED AT INTERSECTION OF MAPLE AND ROOSEVELT <br /> To im rove traffic safety at the intersection of Roosevelt Boulevard and Maple Street, the <br /> Eugene Publi Works Transportation Division is making two changes this week: <br /> • The fight-hand westbound lane, which now allows both straight through and right turns, <br /> is being conv rted into aright-turn-only lane. <br /> • The ign indicating the 35 mph speed limit for westbound Roosevelt traffic east of <br /> Maple Street ill be moved closer to the intersection as a reminder to motorists that the posted <br /> speed throug the intersection is 35 mph. Some westbound motorists may see the 45 mph speed <br /> limit sign we of the intersection and increase their speed as they go through the intersection, <br /> which is not ermitted. <br /> Seven accidents were reported at the intersection of Maple and Roosevelt in 1998. In <br /> November 19 9, a Eugene woman was killed after she drove into the intersection from Maple <br /> Street and col ided with a vehicle westbound on Roosevelt Boulevard.
