Last year that amounted to more than 15,000 cubic yards a pile that could cover a
egulation footb 11 field to a depth of 10 feet. Because leaves piled in streets can cause localized
ooding, pollut streams and waterways, and create traffic hazards, the City encourages residents
o pile leaves in the streets only as a last resort.
At home leaves can be recycled as mulch or compost material. Another option is sharing
xcess leaves w th neighbors. Or, take leaves to a commercial recycler who accepts yard debris
or a nominal c arge, or contact your waste hauler about curbside yard debris pickup service.
If you d decide to place your leaves in the street, wait until the weekend before
ollection in yo r neighborhood. Keep leaf piles free of woody waste and other debris, and be
ure leaves don't block bike or traffic lanes and are well away from storm drains.
urrent collecti n schedules and tips for recycling and piling leaves are available on the City of
ugene leaf hot fine at 682-5383, or on the Internet at www.ci.eugene.or.us/pw/leaves.
ublic Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl Street • Eugene, OR 97401
Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX: (541) 682-6826 • www.ci.eugene.or.us
I
