i <br /> ~ ~ ~ ~ <br /> ICI <br /> III June 26, 1998 <br /> i <br /> CONTACT: Sharlett Rice, Project Manager, 682-5560 <br /> From Public Information Section, 682-5523 <br /> ii FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> SKINNER BUTTE ACCESS ROAD CLOSED OVER WEEKEND FOR PAVING <br /> The road to the top of Skinner Butte will be closed to vehicular access this weekend and <br /> ~I next Monday to allow the completion of paving work. Trails will remain open for foot traffic. <br /> Morse Bros. Inc., under contract to the City of Eugene, began repairing the access road to <br /> ~I the popular overlook earlier this week. On Friday, crews put down a thin paving layer, called a <br /> pre-leveling course. This layer is very fragile in spots and must remain clean and undamaged <br /> until crews come back on Monday and put a thicker overlay on top of it, weather permitting. <br /> The repair and paving contract includes work on a portion of the lower access road, from <br /> I, Cheshire Street to the rock-climbing area at the north end of Lincoln Street. That section of road <br /> will be closed Monda and, ossibly, Tuesday, for paving. <br /> Y P <br /> 'i Also on Monday, the next phase of construction will begin on a separate job to repave 8`n <br /> I <br /> ~ Avenue from Oak to Charnelton streets and Oak Street from 13`n to 5`n avenues. Crews will <br /> ICI be in rindin off the to la er of avement in a process called rotomilling. The work on 8`" <br /> g g g p Y P <br /> ,Avenue and on Oak Street from 13`n to 11`n avenues will be done during the day, while work on <br /> Oak Street from 11 to 5`n avenues will occur at night.
