i i ~ _ ~
~iJuly 23, 1998
CONTACT: Johnny Medlin, Support Services Manager, 682-4800
'From Public Information Section, 682-5523
.,FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MEETING SLATED JULY 30 TO DISCUSS HEALTH OF ADAMS STREET TREES
III A neighborhood meeting will be held Thursday, July 30, to discuss the health of trees on
Adams Street between 3`d and 6`h avenues. The meeting is scheduled to run from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
II in the auditorium at the 4J Education, Center, 200 N. Monroe.
While clearing tree branches from power lines last spring, EWEB staff noted that many of
the older trees on that section of Adams Street show signs of significant defects such as excessive
decay or other structural problems. In accordance with an intergovernmental agreement, EWEB
notified the City that these trees may pose significant hazards.
Due to these concerns, the City is proposing to have the trees evaluated by qualified
private tree care professionals to determine if the defects pose significant threats to life or -
property. The private professionals also would be asked to make recommendations regarding
alternatives on how the City might resolve any hazards found to exist.
i
Both EWEB and City staff recognize the importance of these trees to the residents on
Adams Street and the general community, and interested citizens will be invited to view and
~ participate in the investigation of the trees. For more information, contact Public Works
Maintenance at 682-4800.

Public Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl • Eugene, OR 97401-2727 • Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX (541) 682-6826
