I <br /> i <br /> ~ <br /> i July 27, 1998 <br /> CONTACT: Bob Terrel, Project Manager, 682-5560 <br /> I~j From Public Information Section, 682-5523 <br /> FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br /> II WORK TO START WEDNESDAY ON WEST 11T" AND CHAMBERS PAVING PROJECT <br /> Work is scheduled to begin Wednesday, July 29, on a six-week, $714,000 project to repave <br /> ,West 11`h Avenue from Polk to Chambers streets and Chambers Street from 11"' to 24`h avenues. <br /> Wildish Construction Co. has been awarded the contract for the paving project designed and <br /> I' managed by the Eugene Public Works Department. <br /> Work will be done in two main phases: grinding off the top layer of existing pavement using <br /> a process called rotomilling; and applying a new surface of asphaltic concrete. Conduit and new <br /> ~I <br /> ~i sidewalk ramps will be installed at Chambers and 22°d Avenue to accommodate a new pedestrian <br /> crossing signal, but no other traffic changes or lane reconfigurations are planned. <br /> Most of the work will be done during daytime construction hours, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Work in <br /> Ilthe vicinity of Chambers and 18`h Avenue will be done at night, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. At least one traffic. <br /> lane in each direction will be kept open on Chambers Street during construction, but motorists are <br /> ,,likely to encounter delays and detours and are encouraged to use alternate routes. <br /> I <br /> II This is one in a series of projects initiated over the past several years by the City of Eugene <br /> to preserve and extend the life of West l 1"' Avenue.
