NI
~ July 30, 1998
CONTACT: Kathy Eva, Public Information Specialist, 682-2739
III From Public Information Section, 682-5523
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
~I
NEW SECTION OF EAST BANK TRAIL TO BE DEDICATED AUGUST 4
Anew and important link to the riverfront bicycle and pedestrian system, providing much
II needed access to rapidly growing neighborhoods in northeast Eugene, will be dedicated Tuesday,
~i August 4, at 1 p.m. Mayor Torrey and guest speakers will celebrate the completion of a 1-mile-
long section of the East Bank Trail on a site just east of the Owosso bridge.
A %-mile-long segment of the new trail was publicly constructed last year from the
intersection of Green Acres Road and Delta Highway to the Beltline bridge. Subsequently a''/2-
mile-long segment was privately constructed by the developers of Valley River Village from the
Beltline bridge to the Owosso bicycle-pedestrian bridge. Eighty percent of the $800,000 project
cost for the publicly constructed segment was paid for through a federal transportation grant,
with the balance paid for through funds collected through City transportation systems
till development charges. The privately constructed segment was paid for by SDC credits and will
be maintained by the City.
Following the dedication, there will be an opportunity to bicycle or walk on the new
section of the trail. For more information, contact Kathy Eva at 682-2739.

Public Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl • Eugene, OR 97401-2727 • Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX (541) 682-6826
