~ctober 7, 1998
~ONTACT: Teri Higgins, Project Manager, 682-5560
from Public Information Section, 682-5523
I~OR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TRAFFIC TO BE DETOURED AROUND PRAII2IE ROAD CONSTRUCTION
A two-week project to install underground wastewater pipes in Prairie Road from Irving Road to
l~'ederal Lane is scheduled to begin Monday, October 12.
I~ Motorists in the construction zone are likely to encounter detours, lane closures and significant
delays while the 16-foot-deep wastewater lines are being installed. At times during the project, Prairie
Road will be closed to through traffic between Irving Road and Federal Lane. Northbound traffic on
Prairie Road will be detoured to Northwest Expressway while the closure is in effect, and southbound
traffic on Prairie Road will be directed to turn at Irvington and use Highway 99 or Northwest
>~,xpressway as detour routes. Irving Road will remain open to through traffic, but delays are likely.
1~,very effort will be made to maintain driveway access to local businesses during construction.
I
The work being done on Prairie Road from Irving to Federal Lane is the final phase of a $1.1
r~`~illion sewer installation project started in 1997 to extend the wastewater system in .Prairie Road from
~eltline to Kaiser Avenue. Funding for the project comes primarily from assessments paid by benefiting
~roperty owners and from City wastewater funds.
I
~I For up-to-date information about local road projects, call the City of Eugene traffic relief hotline
i~t 984-8484.
II
i
I

Public Works • Administration • City of Eugene • 858 Pearl • Eugene, OR 97401-2727 • Phone: (541) 682-5262 • FAX (541) 682-6826
