iii ~ - /i':~i i-# <br /> i <br /> July 24, 199 <br /> CONTACT: Bud DeSantis, Project Manager, 682-5560 <br /> From Public nformation Section, 682-5523 <br /> FOR IlVIIVIE IATE RELEASE <br /> JOR STREET PROJECT STARTS MONDAY ON EAST 24TH AVENUE <br /> Cons ction is scheduled to begin Monday, July 28, on a $1.5 million project to reconstruct 24th <br /> Avenue betty en Hilyard and Agate streets. <br /> The ork, being done by Wildish Construction Co. for the City of Eugene, includes removing <br /> the badly det riorated street surface, replacing aged wastewater and stormwater lines, repairing curbs and <br /> gutters as ne ssary, upgrading sidewalk ramps at intersections, and repaving the reconstructed street. <br /> Work is sche uled to be completed by late fall. <br /> d <br /> The roject was selected based on a rating system that considers the amount of paving <br /> I <br /> deterioration nd traffic volume. Another factor in this project was the opportunity to address significant <br /> subsurface ne ds white the street was torn up for paving repairs. Funding for the project will come from <br /> City road, w tewater, and stormwater funds. <br /> Begi ning Monday and continuing for the next several months, 24th Avenue will be closed to <br /> through traffi between Hilyard and Agate. Work will start on the Hilyard end, and for at least a week <br /> traffic on Hil and will be reduced to one lane in each direction through the 24th Avenue intersection and <br /> left turns will not be allowed from Hilyard at 24th Avenue. <br /> Local access to homes and businesses on 24th Avenue will be maintained. However, through <br /> traffic, includ ng motorists and bicyclists, will need to use alternate routes. Bus riders in the area can call <br /> the Lane Tran it District at 677-5555 for more information on how LTD routes and schedules may be <br /> affected by c struction.
