Public Works
MAY 24, 1996 Administration
City of Eugene
CONTACT: Don McLane, Oregon Department of Transportation, 686-7610 858 Pearl Street
Paul Klope, City of Eugene Public Works Engineering, 687-5560 Eugene, OR 97401
(503) 687-5262
From Public Information Section, 687-5523
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WEST EUGENE PARKWAY IS TOPIC OF OPEN HOUSE ON THURSDAY
A community open house to discuss proposed design changes to the West Eugene Parkway
will be held Thursday, May 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Willamette High School cafeteria, 1801 Echo
Hollow Road.
The open house will focus on design modifications for the east and west ends of the
parkway, which is planned to eventually connect Highway 126 (Florence-Eugene Highway) to

~r' Highway 99. Construction of the first phase of the project, from Beltline Road to Garfield Street, is
scheduled to begin this year.
The design modifications involve future phases of the project. On the west end, from
Beltline Road to Highway 126 near the Oak Hill area, the alignment of the highway design has been
shifted slightly to the north to lessen impacts to wetland areas. On the east end, a new overpass is
being proposed to improve the connection of the parkway with Highway 99 near Fifth Avenue.
Comments received from the public at Thursday's meeting will be addressed in a
supplemental environmental impact statement required to modify the original design analysis
prepared in 1990.
Willamette High School is accessible to people with disabilities. Interpreters for people with
hearing impairments can be provided by calling TDD 1-800-293-1438 at least 48 hours in advance
of the meeting.
