"If yo 're unable to recycle your leaves yourself and must put leaves in the street, the best way is to pile hem in a windrow away from the curb and not blocking the bike lane or travel lane," i said Richard ucker, supervisor of the City's leaf program. "Leaves blown or scattered into the street tend to ash down and block storm drains." ~,r Block d storm drains can create hazardous flooding problems at intersections. Leaves packed in a pi a typically are more resistant to washouts and allow City pickup crews to work quicker and ore efficiently. Whenever possible, residents are encouraged to recycle their leaves as compost or m lch material or to take them to a commercial recycling center. The C ty has completed its first round of leaf pickups and has begun the second round. Residents are eminded not to put leaves in the street after the second round of collection has been completed in heir area. Property owners are responsible for removing any leaves left in front of their homes a er the last scheduled pickup in their area. The s hedule for the second round of collection is: central Eugene (December 2-6), west Eugene (Dec tuber 9-13), southeast Eugene (December 16-20), southwest Eugene (December 23- 27), and nort Eugene (December 30-January 3).
