! r
t
'///I /II`~~///////~"~/
%L~%~
~~~~~'L
Jl~
Public Works
Administration
MARCH 1, 1996 City of Eugene
858 Pearl Street
CONTACT: Bob Hammitt, Maintenance Director, 687-5220 Eugene, OR 97401
(503) 687-5262
From Public Information Section, 687-5523
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OPTIONS OFFERED TO DISPOSE OF BRUSH FROM SNOW STORM
Most of the snow has melted from this week's storm, leaving behind a tremendous
volume of cracked trees, broken limbs, flattened shrubs, and other brushy debris. Now is the best
time to clean up the brush, before it dries out and becomes a fire hazard.
The City fire marshal's "No Fire in My Backyard" program strongly encourages property
owners to remove all dead brush resulting from the storm before spring. Dry brush, particularly
small branches, adds fuel which will increase the intensity of a fire should one occur. Removing
brush creates a fuel break to help stop wildfires from spreading to your home.
The easiest way to dispose of woody debris is at a commercial recycling yard. Two local
companies accept brush, leaves, grass clippings, and other green yard waste. Lane Forest
Products, 2111 Prairie Road, and Rexius Forest By-Products, with three area locations, charge a
nominal disposal fee. Both companies offer weekend hours. Call them for specific information
on fees and hours of operation.
City of Eugene residents have another option. Beginning Monday, March 4, and
continuing through Friday, March 15, the City's Public Works Department will operate two
special storm brush disposal sites. The sites will be open weekdays (Monday through Friday)
from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
(more)
