II/I`~~///////?'`~/ <br /> I /L J~ <br /> July 26, 19 5 Public Works <br /> Administration <br /> City of Eugene <br /> Contact: Ruth Koenig, Eugene Stream Team Coordinator, 465-2814 858 Pearl Street <br /> Eugene, OR 97401 <br /> From Public Information Section, 465-2739 (503) 687-5262 <br /> FOR IMME IATE RELEASE <br /> END: Aug st 1, 1995 <br /> J PANESE SISTER CITY VISITORS ENHANCE WATER QUALITY <br /> Stud nt visitors from Eugene's sister city of Kakegawa, Japan, will paint the <br /> water qualit message "Dump No Waste, Drains to Stream" near street storm drains <br /> on Monday, July 31 in the area east of Amazon Park beginning at 9:00 a.m. <br /> The tudents, ages 13-21, are visiting Eugene as part of an environmental <br /> exchange g oup coordinated by the Kakegawa Education Center of Oregon (KECO) <br /> and the Eu ene-Kakegawa, Japan Sister City Committee. KECO, a working organic <br /> educational farm, is located near Junction City and hosts a variety of delegates from <br /> Kakegawa swell as other Japanese cities. The Japanese students will be joined in <br /> the painting project by their local host family members. <br /> Stor drain stenciling alerts citizens that anything that enters a storm drain <br /> flows direct) ,untreated, into local waterways. Information on how to safely dispose of <br /> toxics and r cipes for alternative products is distributed to nearby homes during the <br /> stenciling. <br /> The rogram is part of the City of Eugene's Stormwater Management Program <br /> <br /> which provi es all materials and supplies.
