I
EUGENE !TY COUNCIL
WEEJKLY N LETTER
~7Ctober 26, 199

f
~S,~ow Plan
A copy of the Ci 's Ice/Snow Emergency Plan has been placed in the council library for review. The plan is also
being'mailed to ub~c safety, public transportation providers, hospitals, and the media.
During ice or sn Storms, sanding and plowing operations are coordinated from the Emergency Command
Center (ECC), I ted at 1820 Roosevelt Blvd. The ECC remains operational 24 hours a day, as long as
necessary to mi title the impacts of the storm.
When a snow ev nt of any significance occurs, a snow emergency is declared and the media is notified. During
a snow emerge ,parking is prohibked along designated snow routes to prevent parked or stalled vehicles
from inhibiting a rgency vehicle and snow equipment operations. City staff is assigned to clean sidewalks abutting City properties.
ti-icing or deic g chemicals are not used to control ice on streets; thus, the City does not have a bare-
paverraent policy. Snow plowing and sanding operations are intended to provide the prudent motorist with
reasonably safe ling surfaces. During severe conditions, motorists may need to install chains or other
ction devices, pecially for travel in tiie South Hills areas.
slues such send are used for mitigating the impacts of ice that forms on road surfaces. As soon as the
totm is conclud ,glean up of the sand begins. Streets where sand build-up is creating a traffic hazard, and
rteriaNs with stri bike lanes are the first priority for clean up.
or further info align or a personal copy of the ice/snow plan, please contact Bob Hammitt at 687-5220.
arks Planning ff ~s working with the Applegate Trail Committee on a proposal to move the replica of Eugene
kinner's cabin a location that is closer to the original site of the cabin and is also more visible and more
ccessible to the ublic.
