News Release Annual Leaf Pickup <br /> October 18, 1993 <br /> Page 2 <br /> <br /> j The first leaf pickup will begin in the downtown core area, Oct. 25 through Oct. 29. <br /> Crews will return for the second pickup Dec. 1 through Dec. 3. <br /> The ~'Willakenzie/north Eugene area, including Silver Lane and Sterling Drive, is <br /> scheduled for collection Nov. 1 through Nov. 5. The second pickup is scheduled for Dec. <br /> 6 through Dec. 10. <br /> Nov. 8 through Nov. 12, crews will collect in central and west Eugene, between the <br /> Willamette River and 18th Avenue from Garfield Street to Agate Street, and in <br /> Bethel/Danebo. Crews will return for the second pickup Dec. 13 through Dec. 17. <br /> Southeast Eugene, east of Willamette Street and south of 18th Avenue, will be picked <br /> up Nov. 15 through Nov. 19. The second pickup is scheduled Dec. 20 through Dec. 30. <br /> The southwest Eugene area, which includes the area west of Willamette Street and <br /> south of 1$th Avenue, will be picked up Nov. 22 through Nov. 30 and again Jan. 3 through <br /> Jan. 7. <br /> Bike lanes along major arterials will be picked up weekly. <br /> "Leaf piles are the responsibility of the property owner until city crews collect them, <br /> so property owners are ultimately liable for any traffic hazard they create by placing leaves <br /> in the street, " cautioned Street Maintenance Supervisor Richard Zucker. Property owners <br /> should be sure that any leaves they place in the street do not create a hazard for bicyclists <br /> or motoris Piling leaves so they block a bike lane or cause motorists to swerve into <br /> oncoming affic are examples of unsafe conditions, Zucker said. <br /> (more) <br /> <br /> I <br /> <br />
