r
it ~1~~~/il/ice/T~~i
Public Works
Administration
City of Eugene
OCTOBER 18, 1993 858 Pearl Street
CONTACT: Richard Zucker, 687-5220 Eugene, OR 97401
(503) 687-5262
FROM Public Information Section, 687-5523
FOR Il~IMEDIATE RELEASE
CITY TO BEGIN FALL LEAF PICKUP
The city of Eugene's annual leaf pickup program will begin on Monday, October 25,
and will continue through January 7, 1994.
The city divides the community into five areas, and each is scheduled for two
collections. Depending on the amount of leaves that have accumulated on the streets,
Maintenance crews may make unscheduled pickups in some areas during the first week once

~r collections in the downtown core area are completed. Unscheduled pickups will not change
the regular schedule.
City crews cannot collect scattered leaves or leaf piles that are stacked under or very
~'I close to parked cars. Debris other than leaves, such as branches, rocks, metal, and lawn
clippings, will not be collected. To ensure leaves are picked up during the scheduled
collection times, residents should pile leaves in the street the weekend before the scheduled
pickup time. Residents are asked to not place their leaves in the street more than a week
I
before their scheduled pickup because even properly piled leaves can contribute to drainage
and stormwater pollution problems. After January 7, property owners will be responsible
~i
I~ for removing any leaves that are left in front of their homes.
I
(more)
