The project will link the <br /> two sections of Westmoreland Park that are currently separated by 18th <br /> Avenue. Construction is expected to begin the summer of 1994. <br /> The new bicycle/pedestrian overpass will be located about 500 feet east <br /> of Chambers Street. Traffic volumes on this section of 18th Avenue average <br /> 18,000 vehicles daily. The overpass will provide a connection between <br /> Westmoreland Park, Westmoreland Community Center, Jefferson Middle School, <br /> and Magnet Arts Elementary School on the south side of 18th Avenue and Ida <br /> Patterson Elementary School, public ball fields, and the Fern Ridge bike path <br /> near the'!, Blue Heron Bridge on the north side of 18th. The Fern Ridge Path <br /> leads to',downtown on the east and to the outskirts of Eugene on the west. <br /> The project was seventh on the original list of projects submitted to <br /> the Oregpn Department of Transportation (ODOT) for Region III and was not <br /> chosen i the first round of funding. The project was selected when ODOT <br /> expanded the amount of funding to each of its regions. The funds are provided <br /> <br />
