Public Works <br /> City of Eugene <br /> 858 Pearl Street <br /> Eugene, Oregon 97401 <br /> (503) 687-5262 <br /> NEWS RELEASE <br /> August la, 1993 <br /> CONTACT: Doug Weber, Project Manager, 341-5866 <br /> From Public Information Section, 687-5523 <br /> FOR IMMEgIATE RELEASE <br /> WILLAMETTE STREET BASE TO BE TESTED <br /> A pavement inspection service will look beneath the surface of <br /> Willamette Street between 20th and 24th streets this week to see what is <br /> causing the roadway to buckle and deteriorate. <br /> On Wednesday and Thursday, August 18 and 19, Pavement Service, Inc., <br /> under contract to the City of Eugene, will take bore samples and do other <br /> testing r~ork on the four-block section of Willamette Street. Two lanes of <br /> traffic, one in each direction, will be kept open during the testing. <br /> However, ,there may be brief delays, and motorists are encouraged to use <br /> alternatg routes until the testing is completed. <br /> Condrete slabs form the base of Willamette Street south of 20th Street. <br /> Some of the slabs appear to have shifted, and there may be voids under <br /> portions of the base, said Doug Weber of the city's Public Works Department. <br /> Based on ,the results of this week's inspection, work will be done next summer <br /> <br /> to repair the base and repave the surface of Willamette from 20th to 24th and <br /> <br /> a one-black section of 20th Street between Willamette and Oak. <br /> <br />
