The signal will be

3

~ turned off between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. While the signals are off,
flaggers w'll be on hand to direct traffic.
This 's the first of two phases to install anew type of traffic signal
at this in ersection. During the second phase, which will occur in about two
weeks, a a otected/permissive left turn signal will be turned on. Over the
next two w eks the City will undertake a public education program to help
motorists nderstand the new feature before it is turned on.

i

i

i

i

I

i

i

I
NEWS DIREC ORS AND ASSIGNMENT EDITORS PLEASE NuTE: Lane County installed
five simil r signals (protected/permissive left turn signals) in River Road

i last fall, and motorists found them confusing. Although we have made some
modificati ns to make them more understandable, we feel we still need to do
same addit oval public education before we switch on the new feature at the
Coburg and Willakenzie intersection, which we plan to do in about two weeks.
I will cal you early this week to t31k about them and would appreciate any
help you c n give us in getting the word out to the public about how these
new signal operate.
