City Councilor Ruth Bascom, a long-time <br /> supporter of Eugene's urban forest, and Persephone Fletcher, an eighth grader <br /> at Jeffers n Middle School, will make brief presentations. <br /> Grego y Ahlijian, Tree Commission chair, will accept the Tree City USA <br /> Award plaq a and flag on behalf of the City of Eugene. Only 16 cities in <br /> Oregon wer nominated for the award, which is given by the National Arbor Day <br /> Foundation, a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to tree planting <br /> and conser ation. Eugene qualified for the award by meeting the National <br /> Arbor Day oundation standards and for its ongoing commitment to beautifying <br /> the commun'ty through an effective tree care program. <br /> j <br /> <br />
