News Rele se Bicycle Relay <br /> May 10, 1 91 <br /> Page 2 <br /> At 6 15 p.m., Eugene and Springfield bicycle committee chairs will lead <br /> rides fro the 4th Avenue Plaza to their cities to showcase bicycle <br /> facilitie funded by the bike bill. <br /> On F iday, June 14, at 8 a.m., the Eugene cyclists will leave from the <br /> ' 4th Avenu Plaza to carry the baton on the next leg of the trip to Corvallis. <br /> Community supporters are again invited to help send them off. The baton will <br /> be handed off in Corvallis at noon. <br /> ORS 66.514, requires that the state, counties, and cities spend at <br /> least one percent of their highway funds on bicycle and pedestrian <br /> facilitie The statute also requires that footpaths and bikeways be <br /> provided herever state funds are used to construction, reconstruct, or <br /> relocate highway, road, or street. <br /> The ill has provided the means for Oregon to build miles of quality <br /> bikeways. The League of American Wheelman has ranked Oregon as one of the <br /> <br /> ' top two b cycle friendly states in the nation.
