~ G N L ~~~9i
I
ADOPTION 0 INDUSTRIAL PRETREATMENT ORDINANCE
At the Jul 8 City Council meeting, staff from the Wastewater Division will
review the revisions to the Industrial Pretreatment Ordinance. The ordinance
governs ou Industrial Pretreatment Program, which regulates industrial
discharges into the sanitary sewer system. The changes are required as a
result of ecent modifications in federal pretreatment regulations and a new
calculatio of local industrial pollutant discharge limits.
Local regu ations for Eugene's pretreatment program are based on the
Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission's (MWMC) Model Pretreatment
Ordinance. Under an intergovernmental agreement between Lane County and the
cities of Eugene and Springfield, the City of Eugene is required to adopt the
standards in the MWMC Model Ordinance. City staff were closely involved in
the MWMC rdinance revision.
Changes t the MWMC ordinance were recently approved by both the EPA and DEQ
following a lengthy period of negotiations. On June 14, 1991, the MWMC
approved he revisions to their model ordinance. Eugene must now bring its
Industrial Pretreatment Ordinance into compliance with the MWMC Model
Pretreatm nt Ordinance. For more information, contact James Ollerenshaw,
5236.
i
I
t
I
f
I
I
iI
I
i
i

R
j
