Prot ctive fencing also will be installed on both sides of the <br /> <br /> I overpass to ensure debris cannot be thrown from the bridge onto I-5. <br /> The ex'sting bridge is 34 feet wide and has one-and-a-half-foot <br /> <br /> i <br /> <br /> ~ sidewalks. The sidewalks were designed originally to act as buffer strips <br /> between the cars and the railing. The improvement will make the bridge much <br /> safer for w lking and biking. Completion is scheduled for spring, 1992. <br /> This phase f the project will be put out to bid in September. <br /> One la a of traffic in each direction will be kept open during the <br /> <br /> I <br /> paving and ridge work. Some minor traffic delays and possible detours may <br /> occur. Dri eway access will be maintained at all times. <br /> The $9 6,000 improvement project is jointly funded by the cities of <br /> <br /> 'Eugene and pringfield, Lane County, the State of Oregon, and the Oregon <br /> Department f Transportation. The city of Springfield contributed $176,000, <br /> Lane County $250,000, the Oregon Department of Transportation $200,000 (for <br /> <br /> ~ the bridge idening), and the city of Eugene $250,000. A $50,000 bicycle <br /> grant from he State of Oregon will be used to improve bicycle access on <br /> Harlow Road <br /> <br />
