July 8, 199 Eugene, Oregon 97401 <br /> (503) 687-5262 <br /> N E W S R E L E A S E <br /> !CONTACT: B d DeSantis, Project Manager, 687-5230 <br /> From Sandra Gleason, Public Information, 687-5523 <br /> FOR IMMEDIA E RELEASE <br /> REPAIRS TO HARLOW ROAD TO BEGIN TUESDAY <br /> <br /> ~ The ci y of Eugene Public Works Department will begin a two-phase <br /> <br /> I <br /> constructio project on Tuesday, July 9 to improve Harlow Road, between <br /> Garden Way nd Beverly Street, and widen the Harlow overpass that spans <br /> Interstate and connects Eugene and Springfield. The project will be <br /> <br /> I <br /> completed i spring of 1992. <br /> Wildis Paving, under contract to the city of Eugene, is the contractor <br /> for the fir t phase of the project. Wildish crews will widen Harlow; add new <br /> bike lanes nd left turn lanes at Garden Way, Mountain View, Dornock Street, <br /> and Beverly Street; and install new curbs and sidewalks. Existing street <br /> <br /> i <br /> lights also will be relocated and new lights added to improve the lighting <br /> along both ides of the street. This portion of the project will be <br /> <br /> ~ completed b December 1991. <br /> During the second phase, which will begin in October 1991, the overpass <br /> at I-5 will be widened to more safely accommodate the 14,000 vehicles and the <br /> pedestrians and bicyclists that use the bridge each day. The overpass will <br /> be widened 2 feet. This will enable the city to add a five-foot sidewalk on <br /> the south s'de and a seven-foot sidewalk on the north side and create new <br /> bike lanes 'n each direction.
